It shouldn't make a high priced defenseman the primary target at all. They should get a low priced rental and fight with what they have now, and see where Pronger is this summer. Then go for Ryan Suter, when he won't cost assets.

This is a young team with a big window, no reason to go for a quick fix now.

A couple of things:
1. The medical staff should be loosing jobs for not evaluating players more closely. JvR got hit how long ago in the head...and nothing. No evaluation? And he just happened to suddenly have a concussion?

2. Getting a young vet d would be nice, but the real question is how? Who gets moved?

3. Team toughness/presence seems to have slipped. There is less of the "all for one" play that we saw earlier in the season. Rinaldo tries, but he doesn't scare people and cannot nor should not try to engage the real league heavyweights. If Shelley is not capable of contributing....buh bye.

Am looking forward to tonights game, nice steak and a Flyers game is Saturday night heaven.

I habe been saying the same thing. It was a disgrace the other night when talbot was hit needed help up and went right back out. Concussion rules I thought said if the player is struggling they are suppose to be brought to the quiet room. Its easy to say no harm no foul since Talbot seems to be ok, to me its a disgrace.

The player has to be forthcoming to the Medical staff and report issues they are having.

Looked like a cheap head shot to me from the replay. Lead with the elbow too.

If a player is down on the ice and can't get to their feet with stability then the medical staff should intervene. No more smelling salts and get back out there.
The player is NEVER going to say I can't play.

Well I'd like to see a clear replay that shows that conclusively. Because all the replays I've seen, didn't. I'm lead to believe that since there was no fine or suspension by the League, that the initial point of contact on the hit was not the head.

Players can be down on the ice for a number of reasons. Such as having the wind knocked out of you, or taking a hard hit to the chest. I'm quite sure that the Flyers trainers can recognize the difference between that, and a player who is knocked woozy by a hit to the head. Especially with the increased attention to the concussion issues. The fact that the Concussion protocol wasn't initiated, and the ruling from the League of no fine or suspension, leads me to believe that it wasn't a head shot. Unless I could see a clear replay showing otherwise.

In Bob we Trust!

Things are about to be nasty, last year at this time we went for a crap without all the injuries. Goaltending can pull us out as in the last two games in which we deserved to lose.

Or it could be Malkin just faking to draw extra penalty mins, but seriously I just can 't believe the number of head shots you see every second game, for some reason the league is trying to control these events and they are getting worse. I mean like blatant head shots to star players. I think the penalty bar is going to have to be raised and the offender should pay with a long suspension, like 10 or more games.

A player who has just been concussed may have impeded judgement. There needs to be erring on the side of caution. There need to be questions you ask that a player can't guess what the right answer is. It's already been talked about by players that some of them deliberately score low on the baseline to make it easier to pass if they are hurt. So even when they aren't injured their judgement is suspect.

My personal feelings about the JVR thing (after seeing a replay of the hit from Butler) - JVR is acting. Early last season JVR had a concussion, he knows the tests, he knows the symptoms, he could easily re-fail the tests.

In my opinion, he heard the trade rumors and he doesn't want to leave NJ...can't cut the umbilical cord with his mommy.

Just my opinion.

I'm entitled to my opinion. You're entitle to yours.

Besides, this isn't a game of REAL MEN any more. Real men didn't wear helmets, and didn't whine - I'm not singling out any specific player. In fact, back in the day, goalies didn't wear masks. Imagine that.

I agree. But if thier judgement is that imparied that they can't tell a trainer that they aren't feeling good, then I would think that that would be noticeable.

Tim,
You would do the FLyer fan base a huge solid by letting Pronger know that at this time we hope he makes a full recovery and to not feel pressured to return and jeopardize his health. The team needs him but his health is more important!

It wasn't an opinion. It was a fantasy. Back in the day, shooters didn't take slap shots or have composite sticks either.

I firmly believe that the rash of concussions in the NHL is the result of awareness creating hysteria. With every symptom front and centre and, for people who saw CBC tonight, every head shot being in discussion in the media before anything happens on the league level, it's easy to see how players feel things that don't exist.

That said - every player and every brain is different. You can't call out an individual and say he's faking. Hockey players are competitive men and warriors, in the sporting sense. Way out of line.

It's not hysteria. It's proper diagnosis and treatment of concussions. Players are being pulled out of games and diagnosed properly, where before, and not that long ago, they'd continue to play with those symptoms.

I do wonder if other teams have this happen like it happens with us.

I am in the boat that our medical staff is terrible. I also dislike our goalie coach.
